Underfloor heating (UFH) operates on a simple principle: warm water circulates through a network of pipes laid beneath your floor. Heat radiates upward from the floor surface, warming the room from the ground up.
Wet vs Electric UFH
Wet (hydronic) UFH — water heated by your boiler or heat pump circulates through pipes. This is the most efficient system for whole-house installation and the type RARE specialises in.
Electric UFH — electric heating cables or mats under the floor. Better for small areas (bathrooms, kitchen) as a secondary system.
Why UFH is More Efficient Than Radiators
- UFH operates at lower flow temperatures (35–55°C vs 70–80°C for radiators)
- This makes it exceptionally compatible with heat pumps and condensing boilers
- Heat distribution is even — no cold spots or draughts
- Radiators are eliminated, freeing wall space
