Most smart thermostats were designed for conventional on/off radiator control and adapted for UFH. Heatmiser was built from the ground up for the UK market, with UFH as a primary use case — and the technical difference shows.

Why floor sensor protection matters in London's high-spec interiors.

Across Mayfair, Marylebone, Hampstead and Knightsbridge, we regularly work in homes with engineered oak, Versailles parquet, heated marble and porcelain tiles. Every one of these floor finishes has a maximum recommended operating temperature — typically 27°C for timber and 29°C for tile and stone.

Without a floor sensor, the UFH system cannot measure the floor surface temperature — it can only measure the air temperature. On a cold morning with the system calling hard, the floor temperature can significantly exceed these limits before the air temperature reaches set-point, causing damage to the floor finish that is expensive and sometimes impossible to remediate.

The Heatmiser NeoStat's floor sensor input solves this directly. We install a temperature probe beneath the floor finish, and the thermostat monitors the floor surface continuously — overriding the heating call if the floor temperature approaches the limit, regardless of what the air temperature is doing.

How we integrate Heatmiser with your UFH manifold.

    Survey & zone layout

    We assess the existing manifold, confirm actuator compatibility, and design the thermostat layout.

    Actuator installation

    Zone valve actuators are fitted to each manifold port, wired back to the NeoStat thermostats.

    Floor sensor installation

    Where required (timber floors particularly), floor temperature probes are installed via a conduit in the screed.

    NeoHub commissioning

    All zones are commissioned individually, tested for correct valve operation, and configured in the app.

    Boiler integration

    The NeoHub is connected to the boiler — via OpenTherm if compatible — and the heat demand logic is tested across all zones.
