The RARE Standard™

How RARE Plumbing delivers a white-glove service

Before you book, we want you to know exactly how we work, what we commit to, and what you can expect from every engineer we send to your home.

These are not aspirations. They are written standards that every RARE engineer follows on every job — whether the work takes one hour or one week, whether you are a first-time caller or a long-standing member.

Standard 01

How we protect your home

Before any work begins, our engineers lay protective floor coverings across all areas they'll be working in and through. Furniture, fixtures and carpets are covered where there is any risk of dust or debris. We bring our own materials — we never repurpose towels or household items to protect your floors. At the end of every job, we remove all coverings and leave the space cleaner than we found it. This is not a gesture — it is a non-negotiable standard that every RARE engineer follows on every visit, whether the job takes one hour or five days.

Standard 02

How our engineers work on arrival

When an engineer arrives at your property, they introduce themselves by name, confirm the nature of the visit, and ask to be shown the relevant area and any existing system history you can share. They do not make assumptions. They do not begin work immediately. They take time to understand the property, the system, and your concerns before forming a diagnosis. This approach prevents misdiagnosis, protects your property from unnecessary work, and ensures that any quote you receive is based on a proper assessment rather than a guess.

Standard 03

Why we take photographs

Our engineers photograph the condition of every area before work begins, record the state of all relevant components and connections, and photograph the completed work before leaving. These images are retained in your client file and serve several important purposes: they protect you by proving the condition of your property before we arrived; they protect us by documenting what was and was not accessible; and they provide a clear, honest record of every decision made. You can request copies of any photographs at any time. We treat photographic documentation as an essential part of professional practice — not an optional extra.

Standard 04

How we communicate

We believe that good communication prevents most complaints before they happen. Before starting work, we confirm what we plan to do and why. If we encounter something unexpected during a job — a hidden fault, an additional access requirement, a component that needs changing — we stop and explain it to you before proceeding. We do not carry out additional work without your explicit approval. After completing a job, we explain what was done, what was found, and what, if anything, we recommend for the future. You should never feel uncertain about what happened in your home or what you are being charged for.

Standard 05

How complaints are handled fairly

If you are unhappy with any aspect of our service, we want to know. You can contact us directly by phone or email, and your concern will be acknowledged within one business day. All complaints are investigated properly — we review job notes, photographs, engineer records and any communications before forming a response. Where we have made an error, we say so clearly and put it right without argument. Where we believe the work was carried out correctly, we explain our position and the evidence behind it. We do not use delays, jargon or fine print to avoid accountability. Our aim is always to resolve concerns quickly, fairly and honestly.

Standard 06

How we quote clearly

Every quote we provide is written, itemised and fixed. We separate labour from materials, explain what each element covers, and confirm VAT in all pricing. We do not provide verbal-only quotes. We do not begin work until a quote has been accepted. If the scope of a job changes materially once work has started, we pause, explain the change and provide a revised figure before continuing. There are no call-out fees added after the fact, no hidden materials charges, and no surprises on your invoice. What you agree to is what you pay.

Standard 07

Why we use evidence before decisions

We do not replace parts on a guess. We do not recommend work that is not demonstrably necessary. Our engineers carry diagnostic tools — pressure gauges, combustion analysers, thermal imaging cameras, acoustic leak detection equipment — and use them before forming an opinion. If a fault is intermittent and cannot be reproduced during the visit, we tell you that honestly rather than making an assumption. Evidence-based decision-making protects you from unnecessary expenditure and protects us from returning to fix problems we misdiagnosed. It takes longer than guessing. We think it is worth it.

Standard 08

How we maintain quality across jobs

Every RARE engineer follows the same documented standards regardless of job size, property type or whether a client is a long-standing member or booking for the first time. New engineers are trained directly alongside senior engineers before working independently. Job records are reviewed internally. Client feedback is taken seriously and acted upon. We do not have a tier of service for smaller jobs and a different one for large projects. The standard we hold ourselves to is consistent because the families and homes we work in deserve consistency — not a variable that depends on who turns up.

Every Visit

How we work — in five steps

Every engineer. Every visit. Every time.

01

We listen

We understand the issue from your perspective before forming any opinion about the cause.

02

We inspect properly

We use diagnostic tools and our own eyes before making assumptions or recommending work.

03

We protect your home

Floor coverings are laid, surfaces are covered, and your property is treated with care before a single tool is lifted.

04

We record clearly

Photographs, notes and job records are made throughout — transparent documentation you can always access.

05

We explain everything

Before we leave, we explain what was done, what was found, and what — if anything — we recommend next.

Our Commitment

Why this matters to us

RARE was founded on a simple belief: that London's finest homes deserve a level of service that matches the care taken in building and maintaining them. The clients we serve do not want to manage tradespeople — they want to trust them. That trust is earned through consistency, honesty and accountability.

Publishing our standards publicly holds us accountable. It means that when you invite us into your home, you know exactly what you are agreeing to — and so do we. If we fall short of any of these standards, we want to know, and we will put it right.
