Megaflo & Cylinders

What is an unvented cylinder and how does it differ from a Megaflo?

An unvented cylinder stores hot water at mains pressure without a header tank. Megaflo is simply the best-known unvented cylinder brand — others include OSO, Telford and Gledhill.

Unvented Cylinders Explained

An unvented cylinder stores hot water at mains pressure, without needing a cold water header tank in the loft. This gives strong, even pressure at every tap and shower in the house — ideal for multi-bathroom London homes.

Megaflo vs Other Unvented Brands

Megaflo (made by Heatrae Sadia) is the most widely recognised unvented cylinder brand in the UK — so much so that many people use "Megaflo" as shorthand for any unvented cylinder, similar to how "Hoover" is used for vacuum cleaners.

Other leading unvented cylinder brands RARE installs and services include:

  • OSO — Norwegian-made, stainless steel, excellent longevity
  • Telford — popular mid-range unvented cylinders
  • Gledhill — including Pulsacoil systems
  • Joule — increasingly common in new-build developments

All unvented cylinders, regardless of brand, must be serviced annually by a G3-qualified engineer to remain safe and compliant. RARE engineers are G3 qualified and service all major cylinder brands.
