Heatmiser NeoHub Multi-Zone Installation — Marylebone
Smart Thermostats — Harley Street, Marylebone, W1U — January 2025
A six-bedroom Georgian townhouse in Marylebone was heating 14 separate rooms from a single, ancient Honeywell programmer — with no zonal control at all. RARE installed a complete Heatmiser NeoHub 2 system with 14 independent zones, app access across three devices, and individual room schedules tailored to the household routine. Energy bills dropped by an estimated 25–30% within the first month.
The Challenge
It sounds almost absurd in retrospect. A six-bedroom Georgian townhouse in Marylebone — one of the most thoughtfully designed homes you could imagine, with underfloor heating on the lower ground and ground floors and traditional radiators on floors one through three — being managed by a single-zone Honeywell programmer from 2003.
Every morning, the entire house heated to the same temperature at the same time, whether anyone was in those rooms or not. The housekeeper's quarters on the third floor ran at the same setting as the master suite on the first. The study — used only two or three evenings a week — was heated just as aggressively as the kitchen. It was wasteful, imprecise and, for a client who managed a complex private equity portfolio, completely inconsistent with how he expected his home to perform.
The brief RARE received was clear: deliver full room-by-room temperature control, accessible from anywhere in the world via smartphone, with the ability to delegate control to household staff without sharing the primary account. The system also needed to cover 14 separate zones — 8 radiator zones and 6 underfloor heating manifold zones — and work seamlessly with the existing boiler without requiring a replacement.
Our Solution
RARE's specification came back within 24 hours of the initial survey: a complete Heatmiser NeoHub 2 system, the gold standard for multi-zone heating control in London's premium residential market. The NeoHub 2 is the only system that handles mixed wet UFH and radiator zones on a single platform, with truly independent control of each zone and no compromise on responsiveness.
Fourteen NeoStat wireless thermostats were specified — 8 for the individual radiator zones and 6 for the underfloor heating manifold. The installation required two full days. Day one was the technical groundwork: running new wiring to the zone valves, installing the valve actuators on the UFH manifold, and integrating the new wiring with the existing boiler controls. Day two was the finishing layer — fitting all 14 thermostats, configuring the NeoHub, commissioning every zone individually, and then the part most companies overlook: setting up the system exactly as the client would actually use it.
Before RARE's engineers left the property, the Heatmiser app was installed and configured on the client's iPhone, his wife's iPad, and the housekeeper's phone — with appropriate access permissions for each. Individual heating schedules were programmed room by room to match the household's actual daily routine. The client didn't need to learn a system — he walked into a home that was already working the way he wanted.
The Outcome
"The Heatmiser installation transformed how we manage the house. Every room is the right temperature, the app is genuinely easy to use, and our energy bills have dropped noticeably. RARE's engineers were excellent — patient, thorough and very tidy."
