What is power flushing and when do I need it?
Power flushing is a high-velocity water treatment that removes sludge, rust and debris from your central heating system — restoring heat output and efficiency.
What is Power Flushing?
Power flushing is a process where a specialist machine pumps water at high velocity through your central heating system to dislodge and remove magnetite sludge, rust, limescale and debris that builds up over time.
Signs You Need a Power Flush
- Radiators cold at the bottom but hot at the top
- System taking a long time to heat up
- Boiler making banging or kettling noises
- Discoloured water when bleeding radiators
- Uneven heat distribution across rooms
- New boiler being installed (essential before fitting)
Why It Matters in London
London's exceptionally hard water accelerates limescale and corrosion inside heating systems. Properties in Mayfair, Marylebone and Hampstead with older pipework are particularly susceptible.
What the Process Involves
A power flush typically takes 6–8 hours for a 10-radiator system. We connect the machine to the system, flush each radiator individually, add chemical inhibitor and check flow rates throughout.
After a Power Flush
Your system should be treated with a quality inhibitor (we use Fernox) and the magnetic filter cleaned regularly to prevent recurrence.
