What should I do if I smell gas in my home?
If you smell gas, turn off appliances, open windows, avoid naked flames or switches, leave the property and call the National Gas Emergency line on 0800 111 999.
If You Smell Gas — Act Immediately
- Turn off the gas supply at the meter if it's safe to do so
- Open windows and doors to ventilate the property
- Do not use light switches, naked flames, or anything that could spark
- Leave the property and call the National Gas Emergency line: 0800 111 999 — free, 24/7
- Once the emergency has been dealt with, arrange for a Gas Safe registered engineer to inspect and repair the fault
